Custom Envelope

The envelope punch board is all the rage these days, but I've been making custom size envelopes for ages.   The punch board makes the triangle tipped envelopes.   Here's a way to make square/rectangle flap envelopes and you can make them just about any size you'd like.

For this envelope I chose to make a large square flap "save" envelope.  It can also be used as a gift card envelope or even a gift card itself.  

First step is figuring out what size envelope I want.   So I measured a bill, added some wiggle room and decided I wanted an 3"x7" envelope.

So I drew a sketch to help show the size.   I added half an inch on each side.  The bottom flap that becomes the pocket of the envelope is roughly 2/3 the size of the envelope.   Since I'm making an envelope 3" tall, that flap is going to be 2".   Normally I'd make the fold over flap large enough for a 1/2 inch overlap, but in this case I want the fold over flap the same size as the card - that is 3".  Total size paper for my envelope is 8"x8"  

Time to score my creases.   

I scored half an inch on the two sides.   

Then I scored at 2 inches for my fold up flap that forms the pocket of my 3x7 envelope.   The envelope is 3 inches tall, so my next score line is at 5 inches (2" + 3" = 5").  The remainder of the paper is for the fold over flap.

Crease all of the score lines with a bone folder and then trim off  the sections as shown.  You'll want to leave flaps on the center segment to construct the envelope.

Add adhesive to the flap that will fold up to form the pocket.   I used a Score Tape type of adhesive that gives me a solid bond.   

Voila!  I've made an envelope just the right size to hold some money.   

Here's a quick picture of it folded closed with the large flap.  Remember I made it the same size as the envelope on purpose.   

Now to decorate the envelope.  I just wanted a motorcycle stamped on the flap.  I used Bombshell Stamps Harley Bikes.   It doesn't look like much as I first stamped it since I have such a busy background.   So time to get busy with some of my Copic markers.   And in case you're curious, the print is from 7 Gypsies. 

And the finished product.   This will be a great envelope to stash away a bit of cash for that next treat or trip that I'm saving for.

This card is for the Bombshell Stamps January Sketch Challenge.   I used Bombshell Stamp's Piston Rebel set to create this.

 The image is stamped with Memento Tuxedo black and colored with Copics.   I did have to darken the stamped image of the motorcycle itself with the Copic Multiliners to darkent it.

The papers from 7 Gypsies (Venice 6x6) mounted on SU cardstock

The diamond plate is adhesive sheets of metal from Quickutz embossed with a Tim Holtz/Sizzix embossinf folder and treated with a smidge of Tim Holtz alcohol inks. I had the background more grungy and distressed looking, but ended up decidingon a cleaner look and cleaned much of the ink back off just leaving a twinge of color.

Now when I handed this card to my soon to be 11 year old son last night, he went WOW... wow mom.  WOW, this is awesome.   LOL.   I guess I have a hit in his eyes.  

And here's the sketch from the Bombshell Blog.  I ended up leaving off some of the accents as I couldn't find anything that fit perfectly.   I chose to keep the card with just the main elements of the sketch. 

Bag Tags

Today is the first day of school for my little ones.  Each year I make a luggage tag/bag tag for their backpacks.  I try to coordinate with the pack.  On one side is their name and on the other side is their contact info.  I use these great plastic Bag Tag laminating sleeves by Scotch.

And here's a picture of my 3rd and 5th grader.   Time is flying by.

Here they are with their new backpacks loaded down with school supplies. It's crazy how much we have to send in.   We couldn't even fit it all in those large backpacks.  They each had to carry in another bag of supplies.

Teacher's Appreciation Week - Part 2

Here's the gift we put together for my son's teacher.  It's a recipe card box.  The box itself is by CTMH and I altered it using paper by 7 Gypsies.   The book sitting behind the recipe box was my inspiration.  It's a binder in which I keep my recipes and I had some matching recipe cards that I wanted to use for this project.  I added some ribbon and metal accents. I believe those metal accents are by EK Success, but it's been a while since I purchased those.  I don't store my supplies in their packaging.  

Here's a picture of the box filled with cards along with the recipe cards and dividers.  I made the dividers using red Stampin' Up card stock and labels punched from the 7 Gypsies cardstock using the Stampin' Up flower petals punch.   My son picked out all of greeting cards that filled up the rest of the box.

Here's a picture where you can see the inside of the box and the recipe cards along with the dividers.   I used Gaffer tape to reinforce the hinge.   The Gaffer tape is also from 7 Gypsies.  I used Mod Podge to adhere all of the paper to the box, but I only covered the back of the papers.   The outside of the box feels like paper and doesn't have a sheen.

Here's a close up of the inside.  I tried to finish off the box nicely on the inside too so it would be enjoyable all the way around.
