Lil' Biker Birthday Card

Here's the card I made my son for his birthday.  He is really into cards this year.   When the first couple of cards arrived in the mail, he asked about displaying them like I did the Christmas cards.   Well, he claimed the buffet in the dining room and they are all lined up like soldiers.   Right in the middle is this hand made card I did for him.   The entire family signed it.

Supplies:
Stamp: Bombshell Stamps for the motorcycle, Stampin Up for the greeting
Ink:  Memento
Coloring: Copic Markers
Paper: Stampin Up cardstock, Textured blue shimmer cardstock from The Paper Company
Tools: Spellbinders Nestabilities (Labels 8), Crop-A-Dile
Accessories: ribbon from Martha Steward, Misc heart eyelet - don't recall the brand, I've had it in my stash for a while. Stampin' Up Dimensionals.

Baby Angry Bird (shirt)

The shirts are done!   My son is off camping with my hubby, so my little baby girl was kind enough to model.  I love the Angry Bird pose she's giving me.

I used Make The Cut (MTC) software to create the file and printed the file from there onto dark t-shirt transfer material.  I used the print and cut feature and then cut the face out using my KNK Zing.  Peel the backing, iron onto t-shirt, and voila.... done!

Angry Bird Food

Here are the party favors.   Everyone is already getting a t-shirt, but my son wanted to have something to hand out at the end of the party.  Thus, we made Angry Bird Food party favor bags.

I took my MTC file and exported it into a rastor - jpg file with a red background.  Then it was easy enough to import the jpg file into MS Word and add a text box and a frame.   Duplicate, print, and trim... viola.  I stapled the tags onto the bags using my Tim Holtz mini stapler.  Love that thing.

Angry Bird Paper Piecing / Cupcake Topper

My awesome 10 year old son has decided that he doesn't want a cake for his birthday.  He wants brownies.  This seems to be catching in our family.  My hubby started this.  That man is not much for sweets but he loves brownies.   So instead of a cake, I'm making brownies using a cup cake pan and red cup cake liners.   To decorate the cupcakes, I'm going to make a lot more of these cute little paper piecings. I haven't decided yet if I'll put the birds on tooth picks, popsicle, or lollipop sticks.  I'm leaning toward lollipop sticks.

______________

Here's an updated photo of the Angry birds.  I changed his tail feathers and ended up using lollipop sticks.  I also used some foam tape in between the face of the bird and a plain red circle for the back for some dimension.

I can't take credit for this idea.  I stumbled across this wonderful ideal while browsing the webs.   I hope this talented lady doesn't mind me casing it, but I certainly want to give credit where credit is due.  Check it out on her blog HERE.  She's got a lot more amazing ideas on her blog too.

P.S.  I'll have to come back and update this post with a picture of the brownie cupcakes when they're done.   That won't happen for another week though.

Angry Bird Thank Yous

After making the bottle cap magnets in yesterday's post, I had a bunch of little one inch circles left over with Angry Bird faces.  What to do?   Well, we're going to need thank you cards.   So this is what I came up with.

The cards are quite simple.   The yellow card base is made with Bazzill cardstock.  I used misc cardstock for the "Thank You", probably Paper Studio from Hobby Lobby.   The "Thank You!" was created using Make The Cut (MTC) software and cut it with my KNK Zing.   The Angry Bird face in the You was also done with MTC and my Zing.   It's a print and cut file.   The "o" is popped up using a Stampin' Up dimensional.

Angry Bird Smooshed Bottle Cap Magnets

I checked two large (like warehouse large) party supply stores in area for Angry Bird party favors.  Between both stores, I found one pack of cocktail napkins and one stack of drink cups.   No party favors at all.   Thus, we were left to our own devices.   We made some smooshed bottle cap magnets.   See the tutorial I posted earlier this month for instructions on how to make these.  The only additional step was to glue a magnet to the back of the bottle caps.

I used Make the Cut (MTC) software to create the image and load the print and cut file to my KNK Zing.  The laser alignment on the Zing worked great.   I adhered the faces to a 1 inch circle of red cardstock.

Angry Bird Birthday Invites

My son just turned 10.  What a milestone.   Each year as my son's birthday approaches, he gets to decide if he wants to have a party or get some large presents from mom and dad.   This year, he chose to have a party.   Well, lesson learned for Mom, I need 6 weeks of planning time for a party and not just three or four.   Thus, my son's birthday party is going to take place two weeks after his birthday.   Sigh.

Alas, it's going to be a good one.   We're doing commando training and the party theme will be Angry Birds.   Well, there aren't a lot of Angry bird party theme items on the market yet so we're left to our own devices.   I'll share more of what we came up with in the coming days.  For now, here's the invitation that we sent out.

Here's a picture of the army of invitations lined up on my desk as I was making them.

The cards are made just using cardstock (mostly from Hobby Lobby - Paper Studio).   The faces are paper pieced.   I used Make the Cut (MTC) software to create a file for my KNK Zing electronic cutter.

Smooshed Bottle Cap Accents

I saw this idea on the web a few months back and asked my hubby to pick up some bottle caps next time he went to the brew supply store.  He went tonight and he didn't forget about my request.  He came home with a bag full of clean bottlecaps.   Here's what the kids and I made....   They're accents that we can use to make cards, scrapbook pages, necklace charms or just about anything that strikes our fancy.

I chose the little house (paper by Stampin' Up - 6x6 Welcome Neighbor DSP from an Occasions Mini, I think two years ago).  Spencer's is the orange hot air balloons (paper by My Mind's Eye - Lime Twist 6x6 pad).  His favorite color is orange.  Angeline... well, we have issues to work through.  She got a chuckle out of picking the bra (um bikini top) (paperr from Jillibean Soup - Watermelon Gazpacho 6x6 pad).

After making those three gems, I couldn't resist and wanted to make a couple more.   And since I was at it, I took some pictures so I could share with my online friends as to how to make these.   Mind you, these could get pricy if you buy them in the scrapbook store.  However if, you pick them up at a brew supply store or hardware store, a bag of a 100 of these is just a couple of bucks.  Now I understand that you can't just use a bottle cap off of the beer you enjoyed with dinner.   The steel on those is much too hard and they won't compress as easily as the ones from the hardware store or brew supply store.

Step 1:  Use your Sizzix or Cuttlebug to smoosh the bottle caps.

I used the big white A plate spacer and my two B plates.  That's the same set of plates that you use for a standard Sizzlet or Cuttlebug die.

I sandwich the bottle caps in between the B plates on top of the A plae spacer.   Run the sand through the machine and you get some great flattened bottle caps.

Step 2:  Peel the plastic gasket from the inside of the bottle cap.  I use my bone folder to help grab a hold of the rubber and it comes out quite easily.  Don't worry too much about cleaning any goop out of the bottle cap.  You're going to cover that with something pretty anyway.

Step 3: Select a printed paper or photograph and punch a 1 inch circle. I used my Creative Memories Shape Maker.

Sept 4: Adhere the punched out circle to the inside of of the smooshed bottle cap.

Just add a few drops of Glossy Accents by Ranger ( or Crystal Effects by SU, or Liquid Glass by CTMH, or similar product) and adhere the punched out designer scrapbook paper to the center of the cap.

Step 5:  Apply the Glossy Accents liquid using the needle nose applicator on the product.

Using that needle nose, work the Glossy Accent into all of the crevices of the bottle cap, removing any air bubbles and pushing down the paper in the process.

Let sit and dry.  The liquid will dry clear.   For an antiqued finish, there are some liquid accent products on the market that will dry with a slight antiqued tint.

I hope you enjoy making your own smooshed bottle caps.  It's fun for adult and junior crafters.  Both of my kids loved making these earlier this evening.  I'm sure we'll be making more.   In fact, my son has a birthday coming up.  These'll make great accents for the thank you cards he'll be sending out to any party attendees.   :-)

And after these butterflies dry, I'll have to make some cards and post those too.

Supplies:
Bottle caps from brew supply store or hardware store.
Cuttlebug, Sizzix big shot or other die cutting machine that can cut Sizzlette or Cuttlebug size dies.
1" circle hole punch
Designer scrapbook paper or pictures.  I used a 6x6 print from Memorybox's Minuet collection.
Glossy Accents by Ranger ( or Crystal Effects by SU, or Liquid Glass by CTMH, or similar product)

Bombshell Hugs & Kisses (MOJO222)

I had a great time making this card.   A lot of different elements went into it.   I may end up using it as my hubby's Valentine's Day card.

The gal on this card is a stamp from Bombshell stamps, stamped with Rich Cocoa Memento ink and colored using Copic markers.   The dress she has on was made with a cutting file that I also purchased at Bombshell stamps and I cut it using my KNK Zing and Make the Cut software.   Speaking of my cutter and software, I designed/created the medallion (Spellbinder like) cutting file in the background.   I love having the multiple shadow layers.

The circular/medallion stamp is from an acrylic stamp set from Inkadinkadoo that I picked up ages ago.  I cut part of the circular stamped image off to make it fit in the medallion cut out. For the greeting I used an acrylic stamp from Fiskars' Lasting Love set.  I stamped it using Stampin' Up Craft ink (Chocolate Chip) and topped it off with clear embossing powder.   Three of the four corners were trimmed with a Fiskars corner punch.

The hearts were punched with several punches including Fiskars, Creative Memories, and EK Success.   I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder on the red piece of paper in the back ground.   Additional accessories include adhesive red pearls from Paper Studio and Stampin' Up ribbon.  Throughout the project, I used Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress inks for subtle shading.   The printed designer paper is by My Mind's Eye (Lost and Found - Madison Avenue).  The card base is made from a piece of 12 x 6 Bazzill cardstock and misc cardstock was used on the card, most likely from Hobby Lobby. Stampin' Up dimensionals were added to pop some of the images off of the page.
